Donald “Don” Peach, 91, La Crosse, Kansas, died Friday, January 31, 2020, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse.
Born December 1, 1928, in Alexander, Kansas, he was the son of John and Mae (Albright) Peach. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.
After service in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, Don worked as a skilled auto body repairman. He owned and operated Peach Body Shop in La Crosse, until 1975, Peach Auto Salvage and Sales in La Crosse, until 1990, and Peach Body Shop until his retirement in 2000. Don was involved with farming part time in his early years and again after retirement.
Don married Helen Spicka of Timken, Kansas, on April 14, 1953, in La Crosse. They lived their entire sixty-six years together in La Crosse and enjoyed camping and fishing with their family. Don spent many hours hunting with his sons and grandsons while teaching them to love nature and the outdoors.
Don was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3147, La Crosse, and the American Legion Post, Timken. He was active with the La Crosse Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Rush County Fair Board.
Survivors include: his wife, Helen, of the home; one daughter, Helen Petrik, and her husband, Charles Petrik, Manhattan, Kansas; three sons, Don Peach, and his wife, Susan Collins Peach, Elbert, Colorado, Ron Peach, Manhattan, Kansas, and Mike Peach, and his wife, Mary Beth Peach, La Crosse, Kansas; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Orlando Peach, La Crosse, Kansas, and David Peach, Inman, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Isabelle Litzenberger.
There will be no visitation.
A private family service will be held at the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, with military honors.
