A 15-0 second quarter run lifted #5-5A Salina Central over Hays High 52-39 in Salina on Friday. Hays trailed 9-2 through the first five plus minutes of the game missing their first six shots. The Indians took their first and only lead at 14-13 following a 12-4 run that lasted into the second quarter.
Hays though didn't score for the remainder of the half and the Mustangs took advantage. A 15-0 run put Central up 28-14 at half time. That lead would extend to seventeen at the end of the third quarter after Hays cut it down to eleven.
The Indians would never be closer than twelve points rest of the game.
Highlights
Sophomore Aubrie Kierscht had a career night for the Mustangs with a new high of 27 points including seven three pointers.
Tasiah Nunnery scored a season high 14 and Isabel Robben added 11.

Boys
Salina Central used a 17-5 run in the first quarter to build a big lead and beat Hays High 54-33. The Indians led three times in the first quarter but never by more than two points.
The Indians had two long scoring droughts through the night. A 7:45 drought lasted through the second and third quarter that led to a 17 points deficit. Hays fought back with a 9-0 run to get within eight but missed a three pointer.
The Indians trailed 42-31 a minute into the fourth quarter but missed shots on their next two possessions. Hays went scoreless for the next 5:10 while the Mustangs scored ten points.
Highlights
Hays had a season low in field goal percentage, three point percentage and free throw percentage while turning the ball over a season low seven times. The Indians thirteen field goals matched a season low.
