The Trego County Chamber of Commerce will be donating funds raised at its dinner Saturday towards the construction of a dog park in WaKeeney.

The dog park will be located in Eisenhower Park, which is just off of Interstate 70 in WaKeeney.

Skylin Day, Chamber president, said it was the hope of the community both local residents and those passing through the area would be able to use the park.

No firm figures have been assigned to the project. However, Day said the project would likely be done in phases. The first would be fencing of the dog park and installation of benches. The second phase would include the installation of play equipment for the dogs. The third phase would include a walking path at the park.

Water hydrants already exist at the park. Only a portion of the 10-acre park would be used for the dog park.

"It has been talked about," Day said of the dog park project," but nobody has taken it on. The Chamber was looking at sponsoring a project."

Doors will open for the Chamber dinner at 6 p.m. at the Trego County Fairgrounds Commercial Building. The dinner will be at 7 p.m. and a fundraising auction will be at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased in advance by end of day Friday. Tickets are available at Malay’s Market or Gibson Health Mart.

The meal will be chicken alfredo, green beans, caesar salad and beer bread.

You do not need a ticket to attend the auction portion of the evening.
