HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State shot 54-percent and held Kansas Wesleyan to 26-percent shooting and beat the Coyotes 90-49 Monday night at Gross Coliseum to end a three-game losing streak.
The Tigers (8-11) used runs of 8-0, 13-3, and 22-2 in the first half to build a 26-point lead late in the first half. Kansas Wesleyan (13-8) used a 10-2 run to pull within 18 early in the second half but would get no closer. FHSU scored 18 straight capped by an Alvin Thompson fast break dunk to push their lead to 41.
Jared Vitztum went 7-for-7 from the floor which included three 3-pointers and led the Tigers with 19 points and seven rebounds. His only missed shot was free throw. Vitztum also recorded four of the Tigers nine blocked shots.
Calvin Harrington scored 12 points, Jake Hutchings and Perry Carroll both added 11 and Thompson finished with 10.
Miles Koehler was the only Coyote to reach double-figures with 10.
