TMP girls drop MCL 7th place game

PLAINVILLE - The TMP Lady Monarchs could not overcome a rough shooting afternoon as the Norton Lady Jays beat TMP 47-32 in the seventh place game of the Mid-Continent League tournament Saturday in Plainville.

The two teams traded the lead back and forth in the first quarter with Norton building a 13-8 lead after one.

Into the second quarter TMP opened the quarter on a 11-4 run and three straight Kassidi Yost free throws gave TMP a 19-17 lead. TMP led by two 21-19 after two Emilee Lane free throws before Norton’s Taylie Hartwell hit a three pointer late in the first half to put Norton up 22-21. They would never trail again.

TMP was just 1-12 from the floor in the third quarter as Norton outscored the Monarchs 10-2 in the quarter and led by nine 32-23.

The Monarchs closed the deficit to seven two different times to open the fourth quarter but could get no closer as Norton pulled away for the 47-32 win.

Game highlights

Emilee Lane finished with a game-high and career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds. 

Tessa Hauser led Norton 14 points and 10 rebounds.

TMP drops to 4-8 on the season and will take on Abilene next Friday.

Norton improved to 6-5 and will take on Trego on Tuesday.
