TMP boys advance to MCL championship

PLAINVILLE – The TMP-Marian boys used a 9-0 fourth quarter to rally from down three on their way to a 49-45 win over Hill City Friday to advance to the MCL tournament championship game Saturday.

The Monarchs opened the game on an 8-1 run and led by eight at 12-4 on three straight Carson Jacobs field goals. Jacobs scored eight of his 15 points in the first quarter as TMP took a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Back-to-back Jace Wentling field goals gave TMP their largest lead of the first half a 19-9. Hill City trimmed the Moanrch lead to four on two different occasions in the second quarter, the final time at 25-21 at halftime.

Hill City outscored TMP 12-5 in the third quarter as they took a 33-30 lead.

The Ringnecks led 36-32 to open the fourth quarter when TMP put together a 9-0 run to retake a 41-36 lead. Lucas Lang hit four free throws and Jackson Schulte added five points during the run.

The Monarchs built a seven-point lead and held off a late Hill City rally for a 49-45 win.

Game highlights

Carson Jacobs and Jackson Schulte tied for a game-high with 15 points.

The Monarchs have won nine straight and are 9-1. Hill City drops to 5-3.

TMP will take on Phillipsburg in Saturday’s MCL tournament championship game. Ellis and Hill City will square off in the third place game.
