Joy Kathryn Glick

Joy Kathryn Glick, 97, Hays, died Friday, January 17, 2020 at Via Christi Village.

She was born August 29, 1922 on a farm near Plainville, Kansas the oldest of six children born to Ralph and Maude (Winters) Carmicheal.  On August 26, 1942 she was united in marriage to Fred J. Glick.  He preceded her in death in 2007. 

Joy graduated from Plainville High School in 1940 and the Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, KS.  She worked in banks in Sublette, Plainville, Pratt, and in Guymon, OK.  She also worked for Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co. in Plainville, Cabot Corp., Pampa, TX, and Southern Union Oil Co., in Hobbs, NM.  She and Fred retired in 1985 and moved to Hays.  Her memberships include the First United Methodist Church, Courtney-Spaulding Chapter of DAR, and Order of the Eastern Star in Hays, where she recently received her 75 year pin.

Survivors include her three daughters; Ronda (Mike) Buchheister of Colorado Springs, CO, Sondra (Russell) Olinger of Wellsville, KS, and Joy Marlene Glick of Hays, six grandchildren; Kerry Page, Fred Buchheister, Judy Stambaugh, Dan Hull, Heather Mewhinney, and Angie Lytle, eleven great-grandchildren, and one sister; Regna Powell of Sun City West, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, and four brothers; Norman Eugene, Richard, Robert, and Ronald Carmicheal.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, Hays, with Rev. Mike Rose officiating.  Burial will follow in the Plainville City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, and on Tuesday from 9:30 am until service time at the church.  An Order of the Eastern Star memorial service will be at 7:00 pm on Monday, at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Churches in Hays and Plainville, Historic Fort Hays, or to Hospice of HaysMed.  Condolences and memories of Joy may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
