An ice storm that moved into Hays early Friday morning forced many area schools to cancel classes for the day, including USD 489, TMP-Marian and Holy Family, and NCK Tech in Hays.
The city of Hays has postponed today's refuse/recycling collection until Saturday because of the hazardous conditions.
The official weather record from the K-State Agricultural Center reports 0.24 inches of moisture overnight with a 1/8 inch ice glaze on exposed surfaces.
Temperatures are forecast to reach into the low 40's this afternoon and through the weekend.
