PHILLIPSBURG — The U.S. Geological Survey reported a small earthquake occurred Wednesday in Phillips County.
The quake, which measured 2.7 in magnitude, was recorded at 5:41 p.m. about 8 miles south-southeast of Phillipsburg — just west of Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge.
It was the second quake recorded in Phillips County in 2020 — and only the second in northwest Kansas this year. A 2.5-magnitude earthquake occurred just after 4 p.m. Jan. 3 just northeast of the Kirwin refuge.
