Joseph 'Joe' Geschwentner

Joseph “Joe” Geschwentner, age 82, of Quinter, KS, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at his home in Quinter. He was born on July 11, 1937, to Frank and Anna (Rietmayer) Geschwentner in Ellis County, KS.

Joe attended the country school through the 8th grade. On February 10, 1964, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Stefan at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney, KS. They were married for 55 years. Joe was an avid fisherman and hunter. He took pleasure in tinkering and working with his hands, watching wrestling, gardening, and watching his great-grandchildren play. He worked his entire career as a mechanic and a farmhand until retirement; one of his favorite tasks was silage cutting.

Joe is survived by his wife Dorothy; son Dale Geschwentner of Hoxie, KS; daughter Kathy (Joe) Flora of Baldwin City, KS; grandchildren Ben (Jennifer) Flora of Georgetown, TX, Ashley (Trevor) Mader of Gardner, KS, and Allie (Austin) Heier of Quinter; great-grandchildren Avery Flora, Harper Heier, Weston Mader, Grace Flora, and Landon Mader; and brother Glen James Geschwentner of Russell, KS.

Joe is preceded in death by both parents; and sisters Mary Jane Augustine, Helen Moos, Francis Oberle, and infant sister Tillie Geschwentner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, January 17, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park, with Father James Thomas as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, Thursday, January 16, 2020, with a parish vigil service immediately following, all at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.
