James Volney 'Jim' Bottomly

James Volney “Jim” Bottomly, age 84, died Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society of Ellis.

He was born April 9, 1935, at Lenora, Kansas, to Herbert J. and Jane Jean (Watson) Davis-Russ Bottomly.  He married Mildred C. (Knoll) on July 25, 1955, at Hill City, Kansas.

He worked for the U.S. Post Office in  Reno, Nevada, for 27 years and retired in 1990.  He attended grade school and high school in Lenora, Kansas.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  He worked for the U.S. Post Office in Reno, Nevada, for 27 years and retired in 1990. He moved to Hays, Kansas in 1993, and was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred C. Bottomly, Ellis, KS; one son, Herbert Bottomly and wife Lella, Sparks, Nevada; one daughter, Barbara Beyer and husband Robert, Reno, Nevada; three grandchildren, Chloe Bottomly, Caleb Bottomly, James Beyer; two step grandchildren, Christine Beyer and B J Beyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lester Davis and Millard “Dude” Russ; three sisters, Una Davis, Stella Davis and Iris “Rusty” Montgomery.

Graveside services and inurnment will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at WaKeeney, Kansas.  Military honors will be by the Hays V.F.W. Post No. 9076.

The family suggests memorials to the Good Samaritan Society of Ellis.
