Janice Arleene Winters

Janice Arleene Winters, daughter of Tude and Naomi Robertson, was born July 13, 1927 at her grandparents’ home in Smith County, Kansas. She passed away January 13, 2020 in Norton, Kansas at the age of 92.

Janice moved with her parents to rural Decatur County in 1929, where she was raised along with her brother Robert, born in 1932. She attended school in Jennings, grades 1 through 10, and Decatur Community High School grades 11 and 12; graduating in 1945. Janice was very active in music in school – instrumental, vocal, and as an accompanist. Early on in high school she was an accomplished seamstress. After graduation, she went on to attend and graduate from Stewart Beauty Academy in Topeka, December 1945.

Janice married “Chiz” Ruzicka April 17, 1946 in Oberlin and moved to Tarona, CA, later returning to Oberlin to live until 1958 when they moved to Pratt, KS, where Janice worked as an instructor at the Beauty Academy. Chiz passed away as a result of an accident in 1964.

Janice married Gary Winters in Pratt on July 16, 1966. They resided in Pratt, Liberal, and Grand Junction. After Gary’s death in 2000, Janice moved to her childhood farm home near Jennings.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Tude and Naomi; husbands, Chiz and Gary; brother, “Smokey” Robertson; daughter and son-in-law, Kandye and Chris Schmidt; grandson, Nick Schmidt; son-in-law, Ron Bodfield and great-grandson, Camden King. She is survived by her daughters: Sharyn Bodfield of Oberlin, Sandy (John) Weigel of Oberlin, Kay (Bill) Mitchusson of Bastrop, TX; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandsons.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Pauls Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oberlin Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Janice Winters Memorial Fund. Condolences may be left at www.paulsfh.com
