Archie Ray Hughes, 85, formerly of Hoxie, Kansas passed away at his home in Flower Mound, Texas on Monday, January 6, 2020. He was born to Lloyd and Nellie (Brown) Hughes in Graham County, Kansas on March 18, 1934. At the age of 12, Archie went to live with Frank and Margaret Husted and their children, Marian and Dean. He became an important part of the Husted family. Archie helped Frank with the farming as well as working for other farmers in the area. The money he earned from working for the other farmers helped pay his school expenses. He attended Sheridan Community High School and graduated with the class of 1953. April 6, 1954, Archie entered the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for four years being honorably discharged from active duty on April 5, 1958. He continued serving in the Air Force Reserves until April 5, 1962. Returning from basic training, Archie married his high school sweet heart, Donna Pratt, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hoxie, Kansas, July 6, 1954. They celebrated 65 years of marriage.

In 1958, Archie and Donna returned to Hoxie, Kansas where Archie began his lifelong career of farming and ranching. Archie and Donna were blessed with four children, an infant son, Archie Jr., infant daughter, Dora who both died at birth, Dru and Jodi. Dru passed away in 2010 after a short illness. Their children were the loves of their life. They enjoyed going to their children’s activities while they were in school and being a part of their lives after they were out on their own. Archie loved farming and some might say that his work was his hobby. He did enjoy going fishing occasionally or going to the airport to watch the airplanes take off and land. His family was always number one in his life and brought him great joy. In 2001, Archie and Donna moved to Flower Mound, Texas to be close to their daughter and her family. Archie is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hoxie, Kansas and a ruling elder. He is a more than fifty year member of the Hoxie Masonic Lodge #348 and served as Worshipful Master.
