Harold J. Schmeidler

    Harold J. Schmeidler, 93, of Walker, Kansas died Saturday, January 4, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.

     He was born September 14, 1926, in Catharine, Kansas to John and Emma (Wolf) Schmeidler.  He married Norma Jean (Dechant) on June 24, 1950, in Hays, Kansas.  She preceded him in death on February 15, 2007.

     He grew up on a farm North of Catharine, attended the Catharine Grade School and was a 1944 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy.  He was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Parish Council, and St. Ann’s Cemetery Association, Victoria V.F.W. Post #1751, Victoria 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and 4th Degree Assembly, and The Kansas Livestock Association.      

     Survivors include three sons, Glenn Schmeidler and wife, Mary Jane, Hays, KS; Kevin Schmeidler and wife, Troie, Victoria, KS; Kelly Schmeidler and wife, Penny, Pratt, KS; two daughters, Myra Burns, and Wanda Tabor, both of Hays, KS; one brother Cyril

Schmeidler, Hays, KS; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.     

     He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one granddaughter, Melissa Schmeidler; two brothers, Gilbert Schmeidler and Celly Schmeidler; three sisters, Fidelia Herbert, Solana Moore and Sister Solana Schmeidler.  

     Mass of Christian burial is at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas.  Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Walker, Kansas with military honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post #1751.

     A vigil service and rosary with the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W., and Daughters of Isabella joining will be at 6:30 P.M. Tuesday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.  The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the

mortuary . 

     Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, at St Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas.

     The family suggests memorials to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, TMP-Marian High School or Hospice of Hays Medical Center.
