Gary Carl Hoppes

Gary Carl Hoppes, 79, passed away January 3, 2020 at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born June 1, 1940 in Elk County, Kansas, the son of Asa John and Bessie B. Miller Hoppes.  Moving from Kansas City, he lived in Larned for 35 years, where he was a tax accountant and owner and operator for H&R Block and was also the owner of Daylight Donut Shops in Larned and Kinsley.  Gary loved to travel in his motorhome, play games, cards and watch old westerns.

In 1963, he married Cathalene Brown in Texas.  They later divorced.

Survivors include: daughter, Montez Bradstreet, Odessa, TX; brother, Ronald (Janice) Hoppes, Hutchinson, KS; sister, Judith LeClair, Hutchinson, KS; five grandchildren, Stephania (Nathan) Welch, Wes (Michelle) Bradstreet, Max (Caitlyn) Bradstreet, Colt (Taylor) Bradstreet, Janica Bishop and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Bessie Hoppes; son, Thomas Hunter Schubert; three brothers, David, Billy Ray and Donald Hoppes and a sister, Patricia Heath.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, KS, with Pastor Butch Kirkwood presiding.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Following the service, cremation will take place.  Graveside inurnment will be at 11 a.m.  Friday, January 10, 2020 at the Larned Cemetery, Larned, KS.
