Elizabeth 'Betty' Jane Staab

Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Staab, age 88 of La Crosse, passed away on January 1, 2020 at the Locust Grove Village Nursing Home in La Crosse. Betty was born on November 8, 1931 to Alex and Evelyn (Bieker) Koerner in Hays, Kansas. She grew up near Hays where she attended school and later met and married Gerald Staab on April 29, 1952 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Betty and Gerald moved to Plainville in 1955 and to this union, Mary, Jerry, Cindy, and Debra were born.

Betty assisted her husband in operating the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store. She stayed busy with the store, as well as raising her family, and assisting with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Betty was an active member in her church; she was a past President of the Ladies Guild, and served on the funeral committee.

Betty was a woman of strong faith, abiding hope, and deep love. She gave us a daily example of trusting in God and taking care of one another. Her legacy will live on for generations to come because she showed us that truly, “The greatest of these is love.”

She is survived by her children, Mary (Dave) Van Schuyver of Plainville, Jerry (Bonnie) Staab of Plainville, Cindy (Rob) Ross of Plainville, and Debra Meyers

and significant other Doug of Plainville; eleven grandchildren, Ryan, Scott (Jennifer, Todd, Angie (Wayne, Tyler (Amy, Carrie, Holly (Luke, T.J. (Tara, Adam (Jennifer, Kelsey (Reagan, and Cassandra (Matt); and twenty great-grandchildren, Brennan, Kaiden, Brooklyn, Chayse, Madden, Kelby, Kaylee, Ayvre, Ava, Rylen, Addison, Hayden, Sam, Corbyn, Abigail, Kane, Eliza, Eli, Daxton, and Jovie.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Evelyn Koerner; husband, Gerald Staab; infant daughter, Betty Staab; brother, Ervin Koerner; and grandchildren, Brent and Scott Van Schuyver.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville with a burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM with a Ladies Guild Rosary at 3:00 PM. The visitation will be moved to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Vigil Rosary at 7:00 PM.
