Longtime Goodland, KS resident Jacob Mark Rooney, 92, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at the Topside Manor in Goodland.

Jake was born on March 11, 1927 on the family farm in Rawlins County, KS to Edward and Kathrine (Haller) Rooney. He was one of four children. Jake attended school in Rawlins County.

On August 20, 1946, Jake married Evelyn Newton in Goodland. To this union, three children were born: Tom, Greg and Kurt. Jake worked his entire life in agriculture. He joined Mueller Grain in 1959 and later became manager. He moved to Reid Grain/ADM in 1979 and retired in 1993.

Jake was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Goodland Elks Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Evelyn, son Greg, and his 3 brothers.

He is survived by his son Tom (Gail) Rooney of Champaign, IL, son Kurt (Martha) Rooney of Louisville, CO and a daughter-in-law Dolores Rooney of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; Shane (Shandi) Rooney, Shauna (Chris) Hoak, Renee (Jorge) O’Lear, Natalie (Mike) Ross, Bryan (Margaret) Rooney, Michelle (Justin) Lawson, Chris Rooney, Kyle Rooney and Allison Rooney; as well as 13 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jake will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 9:30 AM MT at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland with Father Andrew Rockers officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home with a Parish Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be designated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.koonsrussellfuneralhome.com.
