TMP basketball teams sweep Oakley

OAKLEY – Both the TMP-Marian girls and boys basketball teams closed the pre-holiday portion of the schedule out with a win over Oakley Friday night.

Girls: TMP 39, Oakley 28
The TMP Lady Monarchs opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run and held Oakley without a field goal for nearly five minutes in that final period as they pulled away for the 39-28 victory.

The two teams traded baskets early in the first quarter with the Monarchs building a four-point lead at 10-6 and they held on to a 12-11 after one quarter.

Oakley knocked down three three-pointers and outscored the Monarchs 11-9 to take a 22-21 lead into halftime.

TMP’s Megan Hamel scored the only field goal of the third quarter as the Monarchs outscored Oakley 2-1 and tied the game at 23.

The Monarchs scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter, four of the by Adell Riedel, to give TMP a 31-23 lead. A lead they would never surrender on their way to the 39-28 win.

Adell Riedel scored a game-high 13 for TMP. Megan Hamel tied her career-high with 10 points.

Jordyn Lowrie led Oakley with 11.

TMP improved to 3-3 and 2-0 in the MCL while Oakley drops to 3-3 and 1-2 in the MCL.

Boys: TMP 56, Oakley 28
The TMP boys ran their win streak to five games Friday with a 56-28 win over Oakley.

Oakley scored rushed out to a 4-0 first quarter lead and led 8-7 before the Monarchs got back-to-back field goals from Lucas Lang and Ryan Stoeklein and took a 11-10 lead into the second quarter.

After Oakley tied the game at 13 TMP outscored Oakley 13-2 the rest of the first half to build a 26-15 halftime lead.

Oakley cut the lead back to nine on a pair of free throws to open the third quarter TMP got back-to-back three’s from Jackson Schulte and Ryan Stoeklein that sparked a 18-1 run giving TMP a 44-18 third quarter lead.

The Monarchs built a 30-point fourth quarter lead and with the running clock earned the 56-28 win.

Ryan Stoeklein recorded a career-high 19 points and Jace Wentling also set a new career-high with 12 points.

TMP improves to 5-1 and 2-0 in the MCL while Oakley drops to 2-4 and 1-2 in the MCL.

The TMP basketball teams return to action on Jan. 7 at home against Ellis.
