Ellis Police Department Officer Christopher Krom is set to take the reins of the department after serving as interim chief since the retirement of Taft Yates last month.
The city council approved the recommendation from the search committee at a special meeting Thursday.
“I’ve got big shoes to fill,” Krom said. “I look forward to serving the city of Ellis, maintaining our department and helping it grow and taking it into the future.”
Krom has served as an officer in the five-man department for almost nine years after moving from Great Bend where he worked as a corrections officer.
“I’ve been doing this job most of my adult life,” Krom said.
The department will begin looking for another officer soon to fill the spot opened by the promotion.
“I will begin advertising that in the next few days,” Krom said.
