Tiger women cruise past Harding at Cruzin Classic

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Despite playing less than a mile from the Atlantic the Fort Hays State women’s basketball team couldn’t throw it in the ocean early in their game with Harding, but but once they found their shooting touch they couldn’t be touched in an 89-48 rout of the Lady Bisons Wednesday afternoon at the Cruzin Classic.

The Tigers (8-2) had their worst shooting first quarter of the season, hitting only five of their first 20 shots but used a 19-5 run over the final couple of minutes in the first frame and the first six and-a-half minutes of the second quarter to build a 13-point lead. It was part of a larger 34-13 run which extended into the third quarter.

The Tigers closed the game on a 27-4 run, not missing a shot in the final seven minutes of the game.

Lanie Page came off the bench to lead the Tigers with 14 points and eight rebounds but suffered a knee injury early in the fourth quarter and did not return. Taylor Rolfs and Jaden Hobbs both scored 13 and Cydney Bergmann came off the bench and added a career-high 11 points and career-tying six rebounds.

Harding (5-4) was held to 26-percent shooting including 6-for-27 from beyond the arc.

FHSU finished 41-percent for the game which included 9-for-21 from beyond the arc and 22-of-25 from the free throw line.

The Tigers are back in action Thursday afternoon against No. 6 Saint Anselm Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CST.
