Alvin P 'Dutch' Rohr

Alvin P “Dutch” Rohr’s life began on April 16, 1927; the son of Peter P and Mary (Klaus) Rohr near Pfeifer, KS. Alvin faithfully served his country at the end of WWII and during his service he guarded SS men in Germany and also secured buildings in Berlin looking for snipers.

Alvin was united in marriage to Vera Pfannenstiel on October 22, 1951 in Hays, Kansas and was later married to Cleo Copeland Welty on January 28, 1978 in El Dorado, Kansas. Alvin enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working in his yard and woodworking. Alvin came from a generation where men could fix almost anything.

In the 1960’s, he ran a small business from his home repairing small appliances. His greatest joys in life were his religion, working and his family.

Alvin is survived by his daughters, Rose Ann Rohr, Lila (Gerald) Mercer, Judy (James) Rohr-Smith all of El Dorado, Juliann (Gerald) Rowland of Augusta; his sons, Elmer Rohr of El Dorado, Donald (Teresa) Rohr of Osborne, George (Adella) Welty of El Dorado, Richard Welty of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren.

Alvin passed away on December 13, 2019 in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by his wives, Vera and Cleo; son, Julian Rohr; step-daughter, Irene Macy; brothers, Robert Rohr, Fred Rohr, Nick Rohr, Victor Rohr and Cyril Rohr; baby brother, Nicholas Rohr; sisters, Ottillia Rohr, Clementina Braun, Agnes Gross, Philomena Braun and Clarita Braun.

Friends may gather at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 18 from 5-7 pm, a Rosary will be held at 7 pm. Visitation will also be held at Cline’s Mortuary on Friday, December 20 from 5-7pm with a Rosary held at 6:30pm at Cline's.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 10 am at The Basilica of St. Fidelis in Victoria, Kansas. Alvin will be laid to rest at St. Fidelis Cemetery in Victoria. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the VFW or the Knights of Colombus.
