TMP basketball splits with Pratt

HAYS – The TMP basketball split a Tuesday night doubleheader with Pratt at Al Billinger Fieldhouse. The TMP boys picked up their third win in-a-row while the girls dropped their third game of the season.

Girls: Pratt 40, TMP 33
The TMP-Marian girls couldn’t overcome a rough shooting night as Pratt used a 12-2 second quarter run on their way to a 40-33 win over the Monarchs Tuesday.

Pratt opened the game on an 8-3 run before the Monarchs answered with a 7-1 run, sparked by back-to-back Kyleigh Allen field goals, to take a 10-9 lead through one quarter of play.

Adell Riedel’s runner with just over five minutes left in the second quarter gave TMP their largest lead of the game at 13-10. But that lead would be short lived as Pratt went on a 12-2 run to end the first half to take a 21-15 lead into the break.

TMP opened the second half on an 8-2 run and tied the game at 23 on an Allen three. Pratt got a three of their own to take a 26-23 lead. A lead they would never give up.

The Greenbacks were able to build a 10-point lead late in the fourth quarter. The Monarchs did close the gap within three with under two minutes left but Pratt sealed the deal late at the free throw line on their way to the 40-33 win.

Kyleigh Allen led the Monarchs with nine points while Dani Staats scored a game-high 14 for Pratt.

TMP falls to 2-3 with the loss while Pratt improves to 3-2.

Boys: TMP 70, Pratt 34
The TMP boys had three guys score in double-figures and used runs of 13-2 and 13-0 on their way to a 70-34 win over Pratt.

In the first quarter the Monarchs rushed out to a 5-0 lead but three straight Pratt field goals put Pratt ahead 6-5. That would be there only lead of the game.

Down by one TMP put together a 13-2 second quarter run sparked by a Ryan Stoecklein three-pointer. TMP was able to build an 18-10 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter TMP extended their lead to 13 twice before Pratt trimmed the Monarchs lead to 27-16.

Lucas Lang scored four of the next five field goals as TMP went on a 13-0 lead and built a 40-16 halftime lead.

Pratt was able to close the gap to 19 in the third quarter before the Monarchs built the lead back up and lead by 30 in the fourth quarter on their way to a 70-34 win.

TMP’s Jackson Schulte scored a game-high 16 points and Lucas Lang and Carson Jacobs both added 11.

TMP improves to 4-1 with their third straight win while Pratt falls to 0-5.
