Marian (Vohs) Smith

Marian (Vohs) Smith was born in Rawlins County Kansas on May 19, 1932 to Harry and Geraldine Vohs. She attended schools in McDonald & Brewster, Kansas and spent her junior and senior years attending Mt. St. Gertrude Academy in Boulder, Colorado where she graduated in 1950.

After graduation she returned to Colby and began working at the John Deere Company as a secretary, then in 1953 she went to work at the City Clerk’s office as a secretary, where she was employed for 25 years. In later years she received her real estate license and worked in that profession for several years.

On November 15, 1965 Marian married Jim Smith and they spent their married life working, farming, and traveling. These travels included going to many Shrine functions, attending annual Jim Smith Fun Festivals all over the United States, working as part of the crew at the annual Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, New Mexico and attending several professional football and baseball games in Kansas City and Denver.

Preceding her in death were her husband Jim, parents, brothers John, Paul and Don, stepson Mike Smith, grandson Chris Arendt, son-in-law Marlin Arendt.

Marian is survived by her brother Bernard (Donna) Vohs, sister-in-law Elaine Vohs, daughter-in-law Mary Smith, stepdaughter Nancy Arendt, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marian passed away peacefully on December 14, 2019. Cremation has been chosen. At Marian’s request, there will be no services. Memorials may be made to the Northwest Kansas Foundation for Hope or Hospice Services of Northwest Kansas.
