Clara K. Suppes

Clara K. Suppes, 93, Hays, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas.

She was born Sept. 6, 1926 in St. Peter, Kansas to John and Mary (Rohleder) Gerstner.  She graduated from Collyer High School in 1945.  On April 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Wendelin J. Suppes.   They celebrated over 52 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 4, 1999.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and lifetime member of Daughters of Isabella.  She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and retired from Wal-Mart after working as a cashier for eight years.  Clara was an amazing seamstress, baked delicious cinnamon rolls and chocolate pies, was very sociable and never knew a stranger.  She was kind, compassionate, very giving, hard-working, and a selfless provider.  She was devout Catholic, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ann Peterson (Peter) of Vancouver, WA; Geneva Brungardt of Storm Lake, IA; and Annette Suppes of Salina, KS; five step-grandsons Tim Brungardt (Lynn, Jerry Brungardt (Jennifer, Mike Brungardt (Cathy, Tom Brungardt, Jim Brungardt (Jenny) and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wendelin, son-in-law Jerry Brungardt, and three grandchildren Gwen, Katie, and Tony.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.  Visitation will be 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Wednesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:00 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:30pm conducted by Bishop John Brungardt of the Diocese of Dodge City, all at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Clara Suppes family for Clara’s favorite charities.   Condolences and memories of Clara may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
