Florence Eleanor (Tichenor) Fellers

Longtime Hays resident Florence Eleanor (Tichenor) Fellers passed away in Overland Park, Kansas on December 13, 2019.  Born in Fairport, Kansas on November 10, 1916 to Robert Enos and Edna (Dillingham) Tichenor, Florence was the last to survive eight siblings. 

Florence, a member of the Hays Arts Council, was known up to her 90’s as a local pastel, ink, and watercolor artist who held shows locally as well as Arizona and Colorado. As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hays, she participated in Naomi Circle.  She was also a member of Ivanhoe Federated Women’s Club, Buckeye Community Club, PEO, Eastern Star, and Sewing Club. 

Florence was a graduate of Hays High School and attended Fort Hays State College. She married Edmond Ellis Fellers (deceased) on March 28, 1936, moving to their home north of Hays at the Higher View Dairy, where she lived on the same dairy, cattle, and grain farm for 73 years.  Five children were born, Barbara Young (deceased, J. Douglas Fellers (deceased, Virginia Lee Fellers (deceased) Elizabeth (Beth) Britton (Tucson, Arizona) and Edmond Fellers (Betsy) (Naples, Florida).  Mrs. Fellers is survived by grandchildren; Tyler Fellers, Kimberly Marquardt, Jennifer Wonderly, Katie Timm, Tonya Packard, R. Dean Packard, Richard Young, Jennie Morgan and Jay Daniel, Jeff, Jason and Josh Fellers. She had 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  Two sisters-in-law, Arloa (Dean) and Helen (George) Tichenor survive her. Daughter-in-law, Pam Fellers, lives in Hays. Paula Young, granddaughter, predeceased Florence. 

A Celebration of Life Service for Florence will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Hays at 11:00 am on Saturday December 21, 2019.  Please join the family for a reception at the church immediately following the memorial services.  Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Allen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Florence’s name can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hays, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Condolences and memories of Florence may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
