After a period of mild December weather, winter is expected to makes its return to northwest Kansas this weekend.

The National Weather Service in Dodge City is predicting scattered snow showers across the region beginning Saturday night and lasting through Sunday.

While the projected totals are still uncertain, meteorologists are forecasting up to 4 inches of snow in the Hays area.

The snow is expected to taper off by Monday, when skies will turn partly sunny.
