POMONA, Calif. – Seniors Santiago Agudelo and Sergio Villalba of Fort Hays State Men's Soccer received All-America Second Team honors from the D2CCA on Wednesday (Dec. 11). Agudelo is now a two-time recipient of All-America honors from the D2CCA, while Villalba earns his first All-America honor from the organization. Sports Information and Athletic Communication professionals nationwide at NCAA Division II schools with men's soccer vote on this honor.
Agudelo, the 2019 Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Year and D2CCA Central Region Player of the Year, is a second-team selection at forward this year. In 2018, he was a first-team selection and tabbed the Ron Lenz D2CCA National Player of the Year when he led the nation in points. Agudelo had another tremendous season in 2019, finishing a team-best 39 points. He scored 16 goals and added seven assists, leading the team in both categories. Coupled with his nation-leading 58 points (26 goals, 6 assists) that also earned him D2CCA Central Region and MIAA Player of the Year honors in 2018, Agudelo finished his career with 97 points. He racked up 42 goals and 13 assists in just two seasons at Fort Hays State. He now owns the career records at FHSU for points (97, points per match (2.49, goals (42, goals per match (1.08, game-winning goals (13, shots per match (5.1, shots on goal per match (2.49, while also owning nine single-season and four single-match records.
Villalba was the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. He finished a strong senior campaign with 16 points, providing six goals and four assists while also serving a vital role defensively. He produced half of his 32 career points this year as he finished with 13 goals and six assists over four years at FHSU. Villalba appeared in 80 matches throughout his career, playing 6,412 minutes.
Agudelo and Villalba give Fort Hays State representation on the D2CCA All-America Soccer Team for a seventh-straight year, going back to 2013. Both the men's and women's soccer programs at FHSU began in 2011. The men's program has seen players receive selections on the D2CCA (formerly Daktronics from 2006-14) All-America Team in eight of the nine years of existence with 2012 as the only year without a selection. This is the third time the Tigers received multiple selections to the team in the same year, also occurring in 2013 and 2018.
Agudelo joins former Tigers Diego Cabral (2011 and 2013) and Luis Torres (2016 and 2018) as the only players in program history to receive All-America honors in multiple years.
