Two area coaches named to Shrine Bowl Staff

TOPEKA – Norton’s Lucas Melvin and Great Bend’s Erin Beck were selected this week as assistant coaches for the 2020 Kansas Shrine Bowl.

Both Melvin and Beck were named to the west squad. Goddard’s Tommy Beason is the head coach.

Melvin just completed his 13th season as head coach of the Blue Jays. Norton finished 9-4 and got to the 2A state championship game. It was their first state title appearance since 1989. They lost to Nemaha Central 19-0 in the title game.

Beck just wrapped up his fourth season in Great Bend. The Panthers finished 5-5. The lost to Wichita Northwest in the first round of the 5A playoffs.

The 47th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl will take place at Yager Stadium at Washburn University on Saturday, July 18th, 2020 at 7 p.m.
