HAYS – The TMP-Marian boys picked up fourth-place finish in the 2019 Hays City Shootout with a win over Millwood, OK. while the girls came up short in the fourth-place game against Millwood and finished sixth Saturday.
Boys: TMP 65, Millwood 62
After trailing by double-digits several times in the first quarter the Monarchs clawed their way back into it in the second quarter and then Lucas Lang’s jumper in the final seconds lifted TMP to a 65-62 win over the Falcons.

The Falcons opened the game on a 10-2 run and then extended their lead to 17-4 early in the first quarter. They led by 13 several different times in the first quarter before taking a 27-16 lead into the second quarter.
Down 29-16 early in the second quarter TMP’s Jackson Schulte knocked down his second of four three-pointers and sparked a 20-4 second run giving TMP a 36-35 halftime lead. Lucas Lang scored six of his eight points down the stretch to help TMP take the lead.
The two teams traded the lead back-and-forth several times in the second half with TMP taking the largest lead of the second half at 44-37.
Millwood took a 62-61 lead on a pair of free throws by Myles Jeffries.
After a timeout TMP’s Lucas Lang hit a short jumper to give the Monarchs a 63-62 lead and the after a timeout Carson Jacobs blocked a short shot attempt by Jeffries that would have given Millwood the lead. A foul on the rebound sent Bryce Seib to the line where he knocked in a pair of free throws to put TMP up 65-62.
Jackson Schulte had a game-high 20 points, Seib added a career-high 13 and Jacobs finished with 11 as the Monarchs improve to 2-1 and earn the fourth-place finish. Millwood dropped to 2-3.
Girls: Millwood 67, TMP 28
The Millwood Falcons opened Saturday’s game on a 14-0 run on their way to a 67-28 in the fourth-place game of the Hays City Shootout.

While building a 22-4 first quarter lead the Falcons forced the Monarchs into 12 turnovers.
TMP was able to cut the deficit to 17 in the second quarter on an Adell Riedel three, Kassidy Yost field goal and two Kyleigh Allen free throws. But the Falcons answered with a second 14-0 first half run on their way to a 41-13 lead at half.
Millwood opened the second half with a 19-3 run and with a running clock in the fourth quarter they earned the 67-28 win.
Adell Riedel scored a team-high 11 for TMP.
Millwood improved to 4-1 while TMP drops to 1-2.
