Anna Alvena (Hagerman) Harms

Anna Alvena (Hagerman) Harms, age 95, WaKeeney (former long time Larned resident, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. She was born March 28, 1924, in Pawnee County, Kansas, to Walter and Anna (Folkerts) Hagerman.


Anna grew up on the family farm; she was proud to be a farmgirl. She graduated from Rozel High School. On September 12, 1948, she was united in marriage to Harry Harms in Great Bend, Kansas. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage, until Harry’s death in October of 2003. Some time after Harry’s passing, Anna enjoyed the companionship of Jack Hardesty, who was by her side for nearly 9 years, until his death in 2013. 


A proud homemaker, farmgirl at heart, and fun loving dancer, Anna could be found doing anything from making and fixing clothing, to canning food for family and friends, to tending her garden (especially her roses, or just having a great time on the dance floor at local events. She enjoyed her cards, especially pitch and pinochle, and was very active in church and Sunday school.


Those left to mourn her passing are her children, Kenneth W. (Mary) Harms, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Elaine Conness, of WaKeeney; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Ramage of Atchison, Kansas, Christopher (Greta) Harms of Kansas City, Missouri, Ian Conness and Sean Conness, both of WaKeeney; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; her special companion, Jack; son-in-law, Robert R. Conness, Jr.; siblings, Velma Smith, Emma Marlett, and Louis “Bud” Hagerman; and several nieces and nephews.


Family Hosted memorial services will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church, Larned, Kansas, with Reverend Nicholas Martinez as officiant. Private graveside inurnment will take place at Larned Cemetery.


There will be no visitation, as cremation was chosen.
