Dorothy Ann (Lorentz) Alstrom

Dorothy Ann (Lorentz) Alstrom was born February 16, 1931 in Herndon, KS to Pete and Anna (Wudke) Lorentz. She passed away November 22, 2019 during a brief stay at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 88.


Dorothy was raised in Herndon with her two brothers and three sisters. She graduated from Herndon High School in 1951. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at the grain elevator in Herndon.


On December 25, 1953 she was united in marriage to Kieth Alstrom at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Herndon. They started their married life on the farm of Kieth’s parents. To this union twin boys were born; Gary Kieth and Jerry Ray. Dorothy worked at Claar’s Clothing Store for many years. In 1973, the family moved to Oklahoma City where they ran a Kerr-McGee filling station. They moved back to Oberlin in 1975 and she then began working at Anderson’s Farm and Home Center until her retirement.


Dorothy was a very classy lady, a good cook and loved to bake. One of her highlights was having family and friends come back every year for opening weekend of pheasant hunting. She especially enjoyed her sister weekends and dancing with Kieth at the Bohemian Hall. Dorothy was also a doll collector. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Oberlin. The greatest joy in her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Survivors include her two sons, Gary Alstrom and Jerry Alstrom and wife Montine; three grandchildren: Casey Alstrom and Missy Uehlin, Nikki Amlong and husband John, and Jessica Luck and husband Mark; eight great grandchildren: Wyatt and Owen Amlong, Allason Alstrom, Corbin, Cyler, Camden and Cailynn Luck and Gavon Uehlin; sisters, Eleanor and husband Eldon Odle and Hazel Rippetoe; plus many nieces, nephews and friends of all ages.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Kieth in April 2019; daughter-in-law, Becky Alstrom; sister, Betty and husband Bob Smith; brothers, Marvin Lorentz and Clarence and wife Evelyn Lorentz; brother-in-law, Jim Rippetoe and her in-laws, Don and Nadine Anderson and Max and Jackie Alstrom.


A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Oberlin United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Oberlin Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 25 from 1:00 to 7:00 pm with family receiving guest from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin.
