Mildred M. Hance, 96, Hays, died Friday, November 22, 2019 at Via Christi Village in Hays.


She was born July 19, 1923 in Logan, the eighth child of John and Martha (Vielguth) Wallgren. She received her basic education at the Rural Brown School south of Logan and attended High School in Webster, graduating in 1941. She married John W. Hance of Webster. They later divorced. Mildred was a school teacher, cook at Fort Hays State University, and a dietician at the Hadley Hospital Cafeteria until her retirement. She was baptized, attended the Church of the Nazarene in Hays, and throughout the years was a faithful Christian in word, deed and life. Truly her life was a demonstration of a living faith and an utmost confidence in God, trusting His Divine Leadership in many of the trying experiences of life. She enjoyed fishing, garage sales, completing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren.


Survivors include her daughter Beverly Fross and husband John “Cooke” of Hays, two great grandchildren; Hayley Gottschalk and husband Derek of Gorham, and Tyler Fross and wife Justine of Pratt, and five great-great grandchildren; Skylar Anderson, Leigha Anderson, Lilly Fross, Oliver Fross, and Clark Fross.


She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson; Monty Fross, two brothers; Calvin Wallgren and Junior Wallgren, six sisters; Alpha McCue, Hazel Schooler, Gladys McCombs, Ann Nelson, Louise Nelson, and Inez Walters, and many other relatives and friends.                                                   


Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Murray officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the ARC of Central Plains Thrift Shop. Condolences and memories of Mildred may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
