Gary Paul Werth

Gary Paul Werth, 72, Hays, died Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at HaysMed.


He was born October 15, 1947, in Hays, the son of Paul and Emmerentia (Haselhorst) Werth. In 1965 he graduated from Schoenchen High School. 


He was a United States Navy veteran serving on the USS Providence during the Vietnam War. He was a retired carpenter for Haselhorst Construction.  


On February 19, 1989, he was united in marriage to Lisa Harvey in Wichita. They celebrated 30 years of marriage. 


He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the VFW. He loved fishing, watching Western movies, family gatherings, walking by the Smoky River, sitting on his porch enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with his grandson, Brody, who was his pride and joy. Gary’s kind heart, sense of humor, and positive outlook on life will be missed by many, always and forever.


Survivors include his wife, Lisa of the home in Hays, beloved daughter; Kye Werth of Hays, daughter; Kim Sallens of Nebraska, a son; Travis Werth and wife Christy of Colorado Springs, CO, four brothers; Arlen Werth and wife Gay of Great Bend, Ivan Werth and wife Shirley of Hays, Wayne Werth and companion Mary of Hutchinson, Alton Werth and wife Terri of Pittsburg, TX, five sisters; Marilyn Leiker and husband Alex of Hays, Donna Jacobs and husband Rob of McCook, NE, Carolyn Windholz and husband Wayne of Victoria, Joan Rogers of Tyler, TX, and Ellen Montgomery and husband Tom of Hays, a sister-in-law; Irene Werth of Kanopolis, a grandson; Brody Paul Hines of Hays, and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law; Dr. Elaine and Bernard Harvey, a daughter; Misty Werth, a brother; Firman Werth, and two brothers-in-law; Norman Klaus and Jerry Rogers.


Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, November 25, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen.  Burial will follow with military honors by the Hays VFW Honor Guard in the St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Sunday and from 8:30 am until 9:30 on Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the family wishes.
