American Red Cross: Blood inventories near crisis levels; donations needed

 The emergency blood and platelet shortage the American Red Cross declared last week has worsened. Inventories of the most-needed blood types — including type O — are now days away from crisis levels. WICHITA — American Red Cross blood supplies are nearing crisis levels. Summer blood donations are far lower than needed as hospitals work to help accident victims, patients fighting cancer, those with chronic blood disorders and others.
