Pawnee County Attorney

LARNED—Michael EG Reynolds, 68 of Larned, appeared in custody in the Pawnee County District Court Wednesday morning for a scheduled evidentiary preliminary hearing.

Prior to the commencement of the hearing, District Magistrate Judge Keaton Gleason took up written correspondence by the defendant to the Court regarding Reynold’s appointed counsel. After consultation with the parties, Judge Gleason granted defense counsel’s request to withdraw.

The Court then advised the parties the preliminary hearing will be re-scheduled once new counsel is appointed and had an opportunity to review the case file.

Reynolds is charged with one count of intentional murder in the Second degree, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of criminal possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from a joint investigation by the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Coroner Dr. Lyle Noordhoek into the shooting death of Dr. Tomas Garza, 52, of Larned, on March 30, 2024. The investigation is ongoing.

The defendant is being held in the custody of the Pawnee County Sheriff with a bond set at $250,000 cash or surety.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
