
John Ollie Tate Jr., 77, of Oberlin, KS passed away February 17, 2021
at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin. He was born on September 12,
1943 in Birmingham, AL to John Ollie, Sr. and Laura Estelle (Pennington)
Tate.
John grew up in Birmingham, AL and was a 1961 Graduate of West End
High School. He then went on to attend the University of Alabama and
Colby Community College. He married Edith Marie Carlson on June 9, 1973
in Estes Park, CO. Throughout his life, he has worked as an engineer,
rancher, and prison guard. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards,
gardening, reading, and collecting books and rocks. John also loved
listening and singing to gospel music and volunteering with the Red
Cross. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and often
could be heard complimenting Edie.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter Silas
(Ann) Tate, Robert Earl Tate. He is survived by his wife, Edie of the
home; children: Jon Austin (Tania) Tate of Gulf Breeze, FL, Jamey
Christopher (Kimberly) Tate of Navarre, FL, Jay Elden Tate of Oberlin,
KS, and Jaron Michael Tate of Ft. Collins, CO; sister, Judy Ann (Robert)
Rumble; sister-in-law, Ellen Tate; 11 grandchildren: Connor Christine,
Elizabeth Austin “Austin”, Cameron Alexis “Alli”, Aden Karlos, Dillon
Mitchell, Jordan Kelsey, Abigail Marie, Noah Henry, Dakota Jade
(Courtney Anne-Keely), Mollie Marie and Jessie Grace “Gracie”, and 2
great grandchildren, Anna Shane Marie and John Ollie Patrick.
