馃弨TMP girls come up short in 4th; boys in 7th place game at Hays City Shootout

HAYS 鈥揃oth the TMP-Marian boys and girls basketball teams dropped their final games of the Hays City Shootout Saturday at Hays Middle School.

BOYS 7th place game: Sunrise Christian 66, TMP 25

The Sunrise Christian Buffaloes outscored the TMP-Marian Monarchs 20-5 in the first quarter and never trailed on their way to a 66-25 win in the seventh-place game of the Hays City Shootout Saturday at Hays Middle School.

The Monarchs (0-3) Caden Dinkel got the Monarchs scoring started with a two-point field goal cutting the Buffaloes lead to 9-2 early in the first quarter.

Down 16-2 Joey Mindrup added a three-pointer to cut the lead to 16-5.

With the lead Sunrise Christian but together a 26-6 second quarter run, for a 42-11 lead.

Ian Nehls hit a pair of three pointers during the second quarter run. He added two free throws at the end of the first half for a 42-13 Sunrise Christian lead at Halftime.

Sunrise Christian opened the second half on an 18-3 run for a 60-16 lead.

With a running clock in the fourth quarter the Buffaloes earned the 66-25 victory.

 Ian Nehls led the Monarchs with nine points.

GIRLS 4th place game: Manhattan 42, TMP 18
The Manhattan Lady Indians used a 30-4 run to end the first half and open the second on their way to a 42-18 win over TMP in the girls fourth place Saturday at Hays Middle School.

Down 3-0 TMP鈥檚 Teagan Gottschalk scored an early field goal to pull within one at 3-2.

Claire Schippers added a free throw to trail 7-3 after the first quarter.

Schippers added a second free throw to open the second quarter but the Indians answered with the 30-4 run to end the first half and open the second half taking a 37-8 fourth quarter lead.

The Monarchs (1-2) got a Schippers three pointer and a Brooke Koenigsman free throw during the Indians run.

Manhattan closed out a 43-18 victory for a fourth-place finish. TMP finishes sixth.

Claire Schipper led the Monarchs with nine points.

TMP will host Hill City next Friday night in the home opener.
