A high wind warning has been issued for the area, including Ellis, Rush, Lane, Ness, Scott and Trego counties from 7 p.m. today to 2 a.m. Thursday.
Northwest winds are forecast to be 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
Blowing dust may also accompany the strong winds, resulting in reduced visibility.
