WAKEENEY – Victoria’s Aurora Nowlin along with Trego’s Kya O’Banion and Annabelle Malsom have qualified for the 3-2-1A state tennis tournament. Nowlin finished sixth in singles and O’Banion and Malsom were sixth in doubles at the Trego regional over the weekend.
Nowlin (13-8) received a first round bye and defeated LeAnne Beikmann of Norton 6-1, 6-2 in her first match. After losing to Phillipsburg’s Makenna Russom in her second match she came back to beat Norton Taylor Mapes 6-1, 6-2 before losing to Felis De La Cruz of Ellsworth 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth place match.
Central Plains Kyla Metro went 4-0 to win the singles regional title.
O’Banion and Malsom also had a first-round bye and defeated Rayne Bray and Lauren Higgins of Hoisington 6-0, 6-2 before losing to Gracie Riner and Laevie Riner of Osborne 6-0, 6-1. They came back to beat Jaden Belles and Gabby Poels of Phillipsburg 6-0, 6-3 before losing to Central Plains Ryann Metro and Ashlyn Armstrong in the fifth place match.
Osborne’s Gracie Riner and Leavie Riner won the won the doubles title.
The 3-2-1 State Tennis Tournament begins Friday, October 14 at 6the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka.
