HAYS – Will Pendergrass and Brady Evans both had three hits and drove in four runs and the Hays Larks finished off a three-game sweep of the Denver Cougars with 19-6, run-rule win Sunday night at Larks Park.
Both had a pair of doubles and Evans added a three-run home run in the non-league game.
The Larks (7-2) scored in every inning but one. They took the early lead with two in the first, added four in the second and third, five in the fourth and four in the fifth.
TMP-Marian alum Carson Jacobs made the start and picked up the win. The senior to be at North Dakota State allowed three runs on four this with two strikeouts and three walks.
Trent Baker pitched two scoreless innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts and no walks.
OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
The Larks scored 48 runs on 41 hits in the three-game sweep of the Cougars. They hit eight home runs in the three games after hitting three in their first six games.
BAKER STREAK
Larks’ leadoff hitter Trent Baker was not in the starting lineup Sunday, but pitched two scoreless innings of relief. The freshman from Houston Christian has hit safely in all eight games he’s started.
UP NEXT
The Larks begin a two-game Rocky Mountain Baseball League series in Liberal Tuesday. Their next home game is on Friday, June 16 vs. the Kansas Cannons.
