Several  Hays Sunflower Bank customers reported receiving account alerts this week for charges they did not recognize.

Jeanne Lipson, director of marketing for Sunflower Bank, released a statement to Hays Post Thursday night. The statement is as follows:

We recently identified and responded to a pattern of unauthorized debit card activity affecting a limited number of customer payment cards.

The activity appears consistent with what is commonly known in the payments industry as a "BIN attack," in which fraudsters attempt to validate payment card information through automated transactions.

BIN attacks typically target payment card numbers and transaction authorization processes rather than customer account credentials or online banking access.

Incidents such as these commonly occur and our fraud prevention controls proved to be effective.

At this time, there is no indication that our systems were compromised.

Protecting our customers and their financial information remains our highest priority, and we encourage our customers to routinely:

·        Review account and card transaction activity regularly.

·        Report any unauthorized transactions immediately.

·        Ensure current contact information is on file to receive fraud alerts.

·        Enroll in fraud protection tools available with your debit card accounts that allow you enable specific alerts and set personalized controls.

·        Visit your local branch or contact our Customer Care Center with questions or concerns.
