BARTON COUNTY —A man from Hays was injured in an accident just after 3:30p.m. Thursday in Barton County.

A 1991 GMC 2500 pickup, driven by Terrence J. Dreiling, 52, Hays, was northbound on NW. 40th Avenue, according to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir.

The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. 281, according to Bellendir.  The pickup struck a westbound Versatile 4-wheel drive tractor driven by James Tindall, 60, rural Hoisington, in the vehicle's left rear tires.

Tindall was in the process of making a left turn onto NW. 40th Avenue at the time of the crash.

Hoisington ambulance transported Dreiling to Clara Barton Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to Bellendir. Tindall was not injured in the collision.

It is believed excessive speed, texting while driving and alcohol may have been possible contributing factors as to why the Dreiling vehicle failed to stop, according to Bellendir.

The accident remains under investigation by the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
