
Barbara L. Owings, 94, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021, at the Sheridan County Health Complex Long Term Care, Hoxie, Kansas.
She was
born August 3, 1926, in Dexter, Kansas, to Jesse and Grace (Karnes)
Williams. The family moved to Studley, Kansas in 1930 when Barbara was 4
years old. Barbara attended and graduated from the Studley School.
After attending school, she went to work for families in the area as a
nanny and housekeeper. She married Edwin Vance Owings in 1945 after he
returned from WW II. They were the parents of two sons. They lived in
Studley until 1953 when they moved to Wheatridge, Colorado. After
retirement, in 1982, they moved back to Studley, where Barbara resided
until her death.
Barbara was a homemaker, a great cook and good housekeeper. She
enjoyed being outdoors and working in her yard. She loved flowers and
always had a big garden. Edwin and Barbara had a motorhome and traveled
some. She enjoyed her family especially her grand and
great-grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by son, Ronald D. Owings of Studley, Kansas;
grandchildren, Ronald E. Owings (Rachel), Lori Schiltz (Thaddus) of
Hoxie, Kansas and Barbara Owings; great-grandchildren, James Henn,
Michael Davis, Bryanna Davis, Braxton Davis, Andrew Davis, Evelyn Owings
and Dawson Owings; 2 brothers and 1 sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Grace Williams;
husband, Edwin Owings; son, Michael Owings, great-granddaughter, Ali
Henn and one brother.
Following Barbara’s wishes, she was cremated. No service will be
held. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the
Hoxie City Cemetery, Hoxie, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the
Barbara Owings Memorial Fund to help with expenses. Memorials may be
