
Ann Mesa, 91, died Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at her home in Garden
City, Kansas. She was born November 7, 1930, in Scott City, Kansas, the
daughter of Juan Lopez & Teodora (Jacobo) Mercado.
Ann grew up in Garden City where she attended Garden City public
schools. After graduating from Garden City High School, she attended
Garden City Community College. On January 16, 1951, she married Albert
Guillen Mesa in Garden City, Kansas. Ann worked as a nurse’s aide at
St. Catherine Hospital. She also worked at St. Mary Catholic School and
with her husband Albert at Mesa Electric. Ann was a member of St. Mary
Catholic Church in Garden City. She was also a member of the Daughters
of Isabella, the American GI Forum, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She
loved to spend her time by taking care of herself by exercising,
walking, and dancing. She also enjoyed bowling and going to the
casinos.
Survivors include 6 children Beatrice (Alex) Gallardo of Garden
City, Kansas, Albert Jr. (Renita) Mesa of Garden City, Kansas, Dennis
(Lanette) Mesa of Garden City, Kansas, Carolyn (Kenny) Kornelson of
Newton, Kansas, Elaine (Mike) McCarthy of Rochelle Park, New Jersey,
& Geri Ann (Daryl) Reece of Olathe, Kansas; a sister Angie Enriquez
of Wichita, Kansas; a brother Heliodoro “Cal” Mercado of El Dorado,
Kansas; 15 Grandchildren; 27 Great-Grandchildren; and 3 Great
Great-Grandchildren.
Ann is preceded in death by her husband Albert, who died on July
20, 1991. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter
Francine Mesa; 5 sisters Lucille, Sara, Camilla, Sofia, & Josefina;
and 3 brothers Felix, Loreto, & Evaristo.
A Rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m. with Funeral Mass following at
2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in
Garden City with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. The funeral Mass may
also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook
page. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00
a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
The family suggests memorials given to the Garden City Community
College Endowment Fund in care of the funeral home.
