A Hays man who has been charged with blackmail has been rearrested for alleged violation of his bond.
Samuel E. Allen was arrested in July 2025 on a charge of alleged blackmail.
According to district court records, Allen allegedly tried to obtain $50 by allegedly threatening to share nude photos or videos of someone obtained through a dating app on June 27, 2025.
Blackmail is a level 4 person felony in Kansas.
Although Allen's name was on the ballot for Hays City Commission in 2025, he did not actively campaign after his arrest, and he did not receive enough votes to be elected to office.
Court services filed an affidavit in Ellis County district court concerning the alleged bond violation on April 2.
A bench warrant was issued the same day by Judge Tom Drees.
An arrest warrant was served on April 27.
A bond revocation hearing has been set for 9 a.m. May 26.
Allen was listed in custody at the Ellis County Detention Center as of Tuesday morning.
