Winter weather and wind chill advisories are in effect in Hays and Ellis County until 6 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service in Dodge City has reported.
Additional snow also could be on the way Wednesday afternoon and evening, although less than an inch is expected in Ellis County. Southwest Kansas could receive 4 to 6 inches of additional snowfall, the NWS projected.
Winds on Wednesday afternoon and evening are expected to be 16 to 23 mph.
The wind chill in Ellis County could drop as low as 14 below zero Wednesday night. Although skies will clear by Thursday, a high of just 22 is projected, coupled with winds of 9 to 16 mph.
The mercury will rise as the week continues, with a high of 39 on Friday, 46 on Saturday and Sunday and into the mid-50s by Monday. A high of 60 is forecast for Tuesday.
