AYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State played No. 3 ranked Pittsburg State to a scoreless draw Sunday at a windswept FHSU Soccer Stadium. Though the Gorillas fired 22 shots in the match, the Tigers joined Central Oklahoma and Emporia State as teams to hold the unbeaten Gorillas to scoreless ties this season. FHSU moved to 2-7-4 overall and 0-5-3 in the MIAA, while PSU moved to 10-0-4 overall and 4-0-4 in the MIAA.

The result was Fort Hays State's first tie against a top-5 nationally ranked opponent since October 16, 2022 when it played to a 1-1 draw with No. 5 ranked Central Missouri in Hays. Pittsburg State has yielded only one goal all season long, recording 13 shutouts as a team this year.

Katie Stoskopf and the Tigers were up to the challenge. Stoskopf had to save only six of the 22 shots to keep the Gorillas scoreless, notching three saves in each half. The Tigers stood tall, sending away every opportunity the Gorillas had in the second half. PSU took 13 shots in the second half compared to nine in the first half.

The Tigers were able to muster two shots against the Gorillas while going downwind in the first half. Maddy Spiers took a shot from just outside the box that went high and Kyleigh Cate took a shot from a little further out that needed to be saved by PSU keeper Jocelyn Kramar, who picked up her eighth individual shutout of the season.

Fort Hays State will play its final home match of the season next Sunday (Oct. 18) when it hosts Northwest Missouri State at noon.
