🥎 HHS goes 2-0, TMP 0-2 at TMP triangular

HAYS – The Hays High softball team went 2-0 Thursday in a triangular with Sacred Heart and TMP while their crosstown rival Monarchs went 0-2 dropping a pair of one-run games.

Game 1: Sacred Heart 4, TMP 3
The first game of the day turned into a pitchers duel that saw Sacred Heart rally for a pair of runs in the sixth inning to beat TMP 4-3.

Knights starter Emilee Blythe retired the first 10 Monarchs she faced until Hannah Garcia broke up the perfect game with a one-out single in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Blythe earned the win for Sacred Heart. She allowed just three runs on four hits with 12 strikeouts and just two walks.

The Knights were able to push across single runs in the first and third innings.

Down 2-0 TMP’s offense was able to get to Blythe for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jessica Herrman lead off the inning with a double and then with one out Julianna Baalman walked. After Baalman stole second her and Herrman scored on a pair of wild pitches that tied the game at two.

Sophie Allen walked with two outs in the inning and then Halle Dreiling gave the Monarchs the lead with a two-out RBI single to put TMP up 3-2.

Sacred Heart answered right back in the top of the fourth inning. They recorded back-to-back doubles that tied the game and then an RBI single put them back on top 4-3.

Madison Augustine suffered the loss for TMP. She allowed four runs over seven innings.

Game 2: Hays 14, Sacred Heart 4 (6 inn.)
The Hays High Indians used a seven-run first inning on their way to a 14-4 win in six innings in the second game of the day against Sacred Heart.

After Sacred Heart scored a run in the top of the first the Indians answered back in the bottom of the inning sending 11 to the plate in a seven-run first.

The first two batters of the inning reach on an error and hit-by-pitch, Lakyn Zimmerman drive in a run with a single, Elle Dreiling doubled in a run and Morgen Berry added a two-RBI single to put Hays up 4-1.

Then with two outs and a walk Ashlyn Zimmer doubled in a pair of runs and Aubree Thomas added another RBI double giving Hays a 7-1 lead. Hays record five hits, a walk, hit-by-pitch and reached on an error in the seven-run first.

Sacred Heart added two more runs in the second and one in the top of the fourth cutting the Hays lead to 7-4 through and three and a half innings.

Hays added two in the fourth on a groundout and an error and then added five more in the fifth expanding their lead to 13-4. The final run came on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth giving Hays the 14-4 win in six innings.

Hays’ Riley Dreher earned the win. She allowed four unearned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in six innings.

Ashlynn Zimmer and Lakyn Zimmerman drove in three runs each. Aubree Thomas finished three-for-four at the plate with two RBI’s.

Game 3: Hays 13, TMP 12
The Hays High Indians scored in five of seven innings, including a six-run sixth on their way to a 13-12 win over TMP in the final game of the day.

Hays opened the game with a three-run first inning. All three runs came with two outs.

Lakyn Zimmerman, Elle Dreiling and Morgen Berry collected three straight run-scoring doubles putting Hays up 3-0.

TMP answered right back in the bottom of the inning scoring four runs to take a one-run lead into the second inning.

Jaci VonLintel single in a pair of runs to get the scoring started. Alexa Ryersee singled home a third run tying the game at three. Then Julianna Baalman’s RBI single gave TMP a 4-3 lead after one inning.

Hays retook the lead in the second, scoring two runs with two outs for a 5-4 lead. Back-to-back run scoring doubles from Dez Schmidt and Riley Dreher put Hays back on top.

Hays added a sixth run in the fourth for a 6-4 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth Ryersee tripled home a pair runs tying the game six.

With the game tied at six through five innings Hays’ offense exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth.

Hays took advantage of four TMP errors in the inning and got a two-run single from Ashlynn Zimmer, a two-run Lakyn Zimmerman double and an RBI groundout to take a 12-6 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

Hays added a 13th run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh building a 13-6 lead.

With the Monarchs down to their final three outs they would mount a massive comeback, scoring six runs in the inning but left the tying run on base coming up short in a 13-12 Hays win.

Three of the first four batters of the inning reached on singles. A Ryersee RBI single made it 13-7 Hays.

After a walk TMP pushed across another run on a Hays error making it 13-8.

Two batters later Hannah Garcia triple in three runs to pull TMP within two at 13-11.

A Brooke Koenigsman RBI single made it 13-12 but TMP ended the game with a groundout with Hays securing the 13-12 win.

Hays’ Aubree Thomas earned the win. She allowed 12 runs, just four were earned on 13 hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.

Madison Augustine suffered the loss. She allowed 13 runs, just three earned on 10 hits with two walks in seven innings.

Hays’ Lakyn Zimmerman was two-for-four with three RBI’s. Riley Dreher and Aubree Thomas each drove in a pair of runs. Morgen Berry collected three hits.

TMP’s Hannah Garcia and Alexa Ryersee drove in three runs each. Ryersee recorded her first career three-hit day.

Hays High  improves to 8-6 and TMP drops to 6-6.
