⚾ TMP-Marian drops a pair against Garden City

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs came up short of a pair of games Tuesday at home against Garden City.

Game 1: Garden City 7, TMP 6

In the first game of the doubleheader Garden City scored three runs in the third and fourth innings and held off a late Monarch rally on their way to a 7-6 win.

The Buffaloes took a 1-0 lead in the second quarter thanks to a lead off triple and a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the third Garden City took advantage of a two-out walk and then three straight RBI singles to take a 4-0 lead.

In their three-run fourth the Buffaloes scored on a ground out and a pair of singles to lead 7-0.

TMP answered right back in the bottom of the inning scoring five runs cutting the deficit to 7-5.

In the inning the Monarchs sent 11 to the plate and collected just one hit while walking six times.

The Monarchs scored on a walk, a balk, two wild pitches and Mark Rack’s RBI single that cut the lead to two.

Joseph Mindrup plated a sixth run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a fielder’s choice groundout making it 7-6 Garden City.

In the sixth inning Jace Wentling was tagged out at home trying to tie the game at seven. 

The Monarchs also threatened in the seventh but a double play ended the game.

Wentling took the loss for TMP. He allowed seven runs on 11 hits with two hits and two walks in four and two-thirds innings.

Game 2: Garden City 5, TMP 2

Garden City took an early 1-0 lead on a first inning RBI single. The Buffaloes scored four times in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a pair of errors and two errors in the inning.

TMP was held in check offensively until the bottom half of the seventh inning when they scored two runs on three errors to make it 5-2.

The Monarchs were able to get the tying run to the plate but a strikeout ended the game.

Caleb Morgan allowed just one run on two hits with one strikeout and three walks over two and a third innings and suffered the loss.

TMP’s Jace Wentling and Mark Rack each went 2-for-4 at the plate.

TMP falls to 8-10 on the season.
