Lois Elaine Meitl

Lois Elaine Meitl was born October 6, 1928, in Selden, KS to Florentz and Margaret (Reinert) Neff. She passed away September 25, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society of Decatur County at the age of 91.

Lois grew up in Selden and graduated from Selden High School. She then went on to attend Marymount in Salina where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. On June 6, 1951, Lois was united in marriage to Gerald F. Meitl. Together they raised nine children in their home three miles northeast of Leoville. Lois was a homemaker and High School Teacher in Leoville, Rexford and Selden. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leoville. She was also a member and served on the Board of the Salina Diocese Council of Catholic Women in the mid 1980’s.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald in 2006; son, Gregory in 1960.

She is survived by her three sons, Steven and Marlene Meitl of McCook, NE, Tim Meitl of Indianapolis, IN, and Brice Meitl and Darci Meitl of Oberlin, KS; five daughters, Joan Meitl and Jeff Franklin, Boise, ID, Ann Johnson, Overland Park KS, Nancy and Brad Bassett of Salina, KS, Gail and Todd Shields of Bolivar, MO, and Cindy and Ed Starke of Helena, MT; 13 grandchildren: Kyle Johnson and wife Sarah, Natalie Johnson, Marie and husband Larry Holloman, Clint and wife Gina Rocha, Hannah and Dylan Bassett, Courtney and Amanda Shields, Anthony, Jenna, and James Starke, Laysha and husband Tyler O’Shields, and Faith Meitl; and eight great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leoville. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Leoville. Visitation will be 1-7:00 pm Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin. A Rosary and Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 pm following the visitation.
